On Wednesday December 2nd , Thursday December 3rd, and Saturday December 5th, Northshore High finally presented the long awaited winter play, The Phantom Tollbooth. This play is about a little boy named Milo played by freshman Brett Houser, who had too much time on his hands. He was given a Phantom Toll Booth that allowed him to go to far fetched places of numbers, words, rhyme and reason. On Milo’s journey to save Rhyme and Reason, he is accompanied by a dog named Tock played by Allyson Jones and a colorful Humbug played by Eric Robinson. The three encounter the sleepy Lethargarians and many evil demons amidst a colorful, imaginative and very effective set. The play was brought to life by the many face of the play’s interesting characters. Characters like the Dodecahedron played by Becky Levy, a noisy Kakafon A. Dischord played by Alyssa Lessing, and the horrible character of The Terrible Trivium played by Cody Cooper and many others made this play possible. It was amazing to see the many demons come down the aisle and the Terrible Trivium literally jump off the stage at the audience. Other than a slightly slow start and a few technical scenes that could have been acted out, the humor and the overall fun that this year’s play was amazing. “It was one of my more interesting roles, but Tock was fun nonetheless,” stated Jones of her character. And first time performer Jessica Byrd said, “It was so much fun- it just felt like another rehearsal.” This play was everything it was cracked up to be and more.
