Ashley Huntington after pulling an all-nighter. -

It is 11:30 PM on Wednesday night, and you are sitting at home in your room doing homework and studying for a huge test. As you look at the clock, you realize that you must stay awake to finish your work. You put on a pot of coffee or grab the sodas and start digging into your work until it is finished. This situation is very common for high school students, but there are some different techniques that help to pull an all-nighter. First, when coming to the realization that an all-nighter is needed, take a cold shower to wake you up. Try to avoid getting into a comfortable spot on a bed or the floor; sit in an uncomfortable chair. Stay cool, don’t bundle up or make the environment warm, because warmness will prompt sleep. Don’t study or stare at a computer for too long, every fifty minutes try to take a ten minute break. Also, eat to keep up your energy; your brain needs food to concentrate and stay alert. Drink cool water often because you are more likely to stay up, due to the fact that you will constantly have to use the restroom. Try not to drink too much coffee or energy drinks. They will wake you up for a short period of time, but a crash will come later. If you start feeling drowsy, try to take a break and listen to fast-paced music while doing a little exercise to get your blood flowing. Avoid a nap; when you fall asleep, it will be hard to wake up. If sleep is absolutely necessary, try to sleep for no more than ten to fifteen minutes at a time with a loud alarm to wake you up. Above all, keep motivated and focused; don’t lose sight of the reason for pulling an all-nighter. Although sometimes staying awake is necessary, try your best to avoid it by prioritizing your work. All-nighters ruin your sleep cycle and usually result in extremely drowsy days to come. Junior, Ashley Huntington states,” I have pulled an all-nighter before, and I must say the next day I was very delirious and just out of it.”  But, if there is too much work to be done during the day, follow these tips to help you stay awake to get it all done.
