After winning one state title last year, our Northshore Swim Team walked away from the Louisiana Division 1 High School State Championships on November 23 with yet another state title.
After a highly successful season for both boys and girls, winning a combined first place ranking at both the Central District Championship and the Greater New Orleans Metro Championship, the teams walked into the State Championships in Sulphur, Louisiana with their heads held high. The key events in the girls win were the 400-meter freestyle relay, and the 200-meter freestyle relay. M.K Jabbia, Sarah Mazier, Taylor Tadlock, and Maria Reyes joined forces in the 200-meter freestyle relay, giving them the first place time of 1:40.81. Heather Winn and Colleen Donovan teamed up with Reyes and Jabbia to secure the win for the 400-meter freestyle relay. Overall the girls’ team accumulated a score of 376, winning the state title, only to be followed by Fountainbleau with 211 and the Mandeville Skippers with 202.
The boys’ team came home in a respectful third place with a score of 210 trailing behind Jesuit and Catholic High Schools. When asked about their achievement Northshore Sophomore Jacob Parker said, “We trained real hard, and I think we deserved the place we got.”
While this victory is great for the whole team, it was especially satisfying for a certain few at the event. Andre Smedstad achieved an All American Qualifying time, and Heather Winn and Michael Faust received All American Consideration Qualifying times. Overall the Northshore swim teams and nationally recognized students give Northshore more to be proud of and another exciting State Championship.
