Big Brother Big Sister is another great club at Brookfield High School. This club allows a student go to either Huckleberry Hill Elementary School or Center Elementary School to play and be with the younger kids. It is a very good program that helps the kids a lot.

The Big Brother Big Sister program was started 18 years ago. It was first started at Center School for the kids who did not have any brothers or sisters and did not know how to socialize or share. Eventually, it spread to Huckleberry too. Now mostly juniors and seniors go to Center School during the day when they have a study or lunch. Other grades go after school on the bus though. The kids who go to Huckleberry go after school and take the bus there.

The advantage to going to Huckleberry in the afternoon is there is more time with the kids. The student who goes to the school gets to work with and individual student or a group. They get to play games with them or even go with them to recess. The kids really enjoy it. Mrs. Hazelwood, the nurse at Brookfield High School and advisor to the club, said, “The kids love it if you are on a sports team and you wear the uniform there. They look forward to the kids going.”

Students always have to make sure that they always tell the teacher and student when they are coming back and most important if they cannot make it. The kids really look forward to them coming so if they do not show up it is disappointing.

If a student wanted to sign up they have to get a form from Mrs. Hazelwood to have their parents sign. After they hand it in they are assigned a teacher. Once someone is assigned a teacher it is important to maintain communication with the teacher to tell them anything good or bad that happened with the student or students.

The Big Brother Big Sister club is great for students interested in teaching or students who just like being with kids. It is a wonderful thing for the younger kids and the students who participate.
