This year the Trinity High School ice hockey Rocks ended their season a little bit early for their liking.
The ice Rocks passed their first stage in the state tournament by knocking off Owensboro 7-2 for the second time this season.
Their tough season ended in the quarterfinals against Lexington’s Paul Dunbar. Their final record was 17-28-3. The bulk of their losses came in their non-league play, which consists primarily of out-of-state teams, such as Cincinnati powerhouses.
"Our record wasn’t so hot this year," said ice hockey moderator Mrs. Mary Mason about the results of this season. "We had very few juniors and seniors to lead the team."
Although the ice Rocks finished up their season in a less than desired fashion, there were positives that came from the experience.
The positive part that came from this season for the ice hockey team was the fact that young members of the team got a great deal of experience considering the shortage of upperclassmen.
Conor Carroll, a senior on the team this year, said, "I think this year’s sophomore class will continue to grow together and play as a team and will become a powerhouse in state."
Some key members of that class include Daniel Carey, Hunter Thomas, Alex Boyce, Keane Gleeson and Nick Ford. As it looks, this year’s sophomore class is a strong one and may be considered one of the most experienced by the time they reach their junior and senior seasons.
Carroll added, "This year’s sophomore class, in my opinion, is one of the strongest to come through Trinity. I see nothing but great things in their future."
