The track Rocks took on 11 other teams at the Shelby County High School All-Comers Meet, where they ran away from the competition.

The Rocks won the meet with a total score of 190.5 points, second was the Shelby County Rockets with 108 points, and Bullitt East was third with 76 points.

The All-Comers Meet was one of the first outdoor meets of the year for the varsity track Rocks. The windy evening and short track can sometimes be seen to cause slower times for those running.

The Rocks saw none of these as obstacles as they soared to victory.

Senior Tim Phillips contributed to the Rocks’ victory with wins in the 100-meter dash (11.05) and as a member of the winning 400-meter relay team (45.08). Phillips also placed second in the long jump (19-11) behind senior and first-year jumper Andrew King (20-4).

"Because this is the first meet of the season, we use it as a stepping stone," Phillips said. "We still have a lot of work to do."

Junior Dillon Raidt and senior Dane Flinchum went one-two in the 800-meter run, with times of 2:04.89 and 2:07.31, respectively. Raidt and Flinchum were also members of the first place 3,200-meter relay team, which won in 8:26.33.

"I was happy with our 4-by-800 performance," Raidt said. "Time will definitely drop by the end of the season."

Also scoring well for the Rocks was sophomore Jake Wildenmann (second in 1,600 meter, 4:37.76), senior Brian Hancock (third in 1600 meter, 4:43.06 and second in the 3,200 meter,10:12.84), senior Chris Corley (first in the 110 meter hurdles, 18.02), freshman Matthew Brewer (first in triple jump, 36-11), junior Spencer Holloway (first in shot put and discus, 43-7.5 and 144-10, respectively), and senior Alex Garr (first in 300 meter hurdles, 45.81 and a member of 400-meter relay team).

"I think we have a great team and Coach Magre is doing a great job," Garr said. "Meets like this give us momentum and give the younger guys confidence in bigger meets."

Head coach Mike Magre is leading the track Rocks into another season and is constantly looking for his team to improve.

"The main goal that I would really like to see is that we’re running our best by the end of the year and that each person reaches their best potential," Magre said.
