After directing all of her admirable effort toward several University of California campuses, Daniel Pearl Magnet High School senior Laura Huerta has the opportunity to receive a full tuition scholarship to Grinnell College.
Laura, whose cumulative UC GPA is 3.7, was anonymously nominated for a scholarship through the Posse Foundation, which partners with eight different universities across the country, two of which are UCLA and UC Berkeley, to provide tuition money and college preparation to high school graduates.
After attending a group meeting with several other students who were required to write essays, perform skits, and complete logic based puzzles, Laura was later contacted for an individual interview with the foundation.
At the beginning of the fall semester, Huerta received notification that she was a finalist among 19 other high school seniors in Southern California for the full scholarship to Grinnell, a small, private college in Grinnell, Iowa.
Although she still plans to apply to UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara, Huerta hopes to attend Grinnell as an undecided major if she wins the scholarship.  All receipts will be notified on Dec. 15.
“I would like to thank all of the staff of the Daniel Pearl Magnet, the students  and in particular, Ms. Kim, Mr. Morrison, Ms. Weiner, Ms. Pleitez, Ms. Zimmring and Ms. Kiddoo…Oh! And my family,” Huerta said.
