“31 seconds left in overtime here at the National Championships...”

“Ulfsax with the puck now…”

“He shoots…

“HE SCORES!”

Those words are familiar to junior Adam Ulfsax, a standout Shores athlete, who has returned to play for this year’s varsity hockey team.

The past two years, Ulfsax has been playing for the Detroit-based elite midget minor hockey team, Honeybaked, where he helped the team with back-to-back National Championships. Those titles include Ulfsax’s game-winning goal with 31 seconds left in overtime in the 2010 championship game.

“I wanted to stay home this year because I missed it around here. I just wanted to be home and play,” Ulfsax said.

Being a skilled left-handed forward, similar to his favorite player Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings, Ulfsax has earned the opportunity to be a part of the USHL Muskegon Lumberjack practice squad until the Shores’ varsity hockey season starts in November.

“I practice with the Jacks around four or five days a week, and on Fridays, I usually go practice with Shores,” he said.

He said he hopes to keep practicing with the Lumberjacks team while Shores’ varsity team is in season, depending on the schedule for both teams.

“I like practicing with them (Lumberjacks)," Ulfsax said. "It’s chill. I’m just trying to get better. And there are a lot of good guys on the team."

After both of the hockey teams’ seasons are over in the spring, Ulfsax will be focusing on his other sport, baseball. Playing on multiple elite teams, including the Michigan Rebels, he’s looking forward to playing varsity baseball where both of his older brothers once played.

Following his high school athletic career, Ulfsax said he hopes to attend and play hockey for a Division 1 college in the future.

Ulfsax also aspires, like any other hockey player, to eventually play in the NHL along side Datsyuk as well.

“He’s just a stud and sweet to watch,” Ulfsax said.

With 21 goals and 30 assists over the past two years, two championships under his belt, and practicing with a USHL team, the season looks bright for the hometown hockey standout in the upcoming season.

Ulfsax said, “I wanted to play in Muskegon again. I’m glad to back (home).”
