For the first time since 2008, the boys’ golf team won the OK Black conference title at the Meadows at Grand Valley State University on Wednesday, May 18.
Despite finishing second at the end-of-the-season conference tournament, the Sailors were able to secure the league title. Shores shot 302, which was six shots behind Forest Hills Central. The Rangers needed Shores to finish third to claim a share of the OK Black title.
Sophomore Andrew VanAelst led the Sailors with a 1-under-par round of 71.
"It felt good (to win conference)," VanAelst said. "It was our goal this year to win conference."
Sophomore Reed Hyrenwich with 72, and senior Derek Thornberry with a 76. Sophomore Joel Maire added an 83.
"(The team) handled the pressure very well," Hyrenwich said. "I am definitely proud of the guys."
