Three seniors capped off their track careers with wins at the City and conference competitions while four girls captured a conference relay championship.

At the City meet held Saturday, May 6, at Holton, seniors Tim Woodcock and Lauren Huettner brought home first-place finishes in the 3,200-meter run and the 100-meter hurdles, respectively.

Woodcock, who defended his 2010 3,200-meter title, faced a few obstacles but still came out on top.

"Before the race, I focused on running a smart, consistently paced race," Woodcock said. "I felt sick all day, so I wasn’t particularly confident about my time or place; I simply wanted to run a smart race."

Woodcock succeeded in winning the 3200-meter race with a time of 9:50.24.

"Winning the race lifted a year’s worth of expectations from winning the title in 2010. Needless to say, it was a huge relief," said Woodcock, who also placed third in the 1,600-meter run.

The boys’ team for Shores came in eighth at City, with a score of 18 while Muskegon won the meet with a score of 133.

On the girls’ side, Huettner led the Sailors to a second-place finish. Shores’ 91 points was runner-up to Reeths-Puffer’s 135 points.

"(It was) incredible (to win the race). I don’t know what else to say besides that. It was pretty amazing," Huettner said.

Although the race was close, Huettner came out ahead with a time of 16.56 while Kendall Wickstrom from Catholic came in second with a time of 16.66.

At the OK Black meet at Houseman Field in Grand Rapids on Saturday, May 14, senior McKenzie Siuda won both the 100- and 300-meter hurdles.

Also, the 400-meter relay team of freshman Ray Anderson, Huettner, junior Sharnae Smith and sophomore Renee Tardani placed first.
