There are a number of students who would say that school is an escape from their sometimes-annoying family. However, others do not get this solace due to the fact that their parents follow them to school.
Every time sophomore Jake Lund walks past the front office, his mother Becky, works at the front desk as the attendance secretary, greets him.
“I do not mind seeing her everyday,” Lund said. “She brings me things and gives me food.”
Lund is not the only Shores student who gets to see a parent everyday at school.
There are at least eight other faculty members who have students in the high school.
Jake and his mother get along well and Jake says he always treats his mom the same no matter where they are.
“I treat her like she is my mom at home, so why wouldn’t I treat her like that at school?” Lund said.
The feeling seems to be mutual between them as Ms. Lund shared many of the same views of her son.
“It’s nice to see him everyday; I like seeing him with all of his friends, and he can bring me things,” Ms. Lund said. “He acts the same here as at home, and I am thankful for that.”
Having a parent in the building also provides Jake with a ride to and from school other than the bus.
“We ride together at least as long as he doesn’t have his license,” Ms. Lund said. “It saves gas and is easier if we just ride together.”
Lund is fortunate enough to not be embarrassed by his mother working at the high school, and Ms. Lund is happy to see her son at work.
“I am happy with having him here, and if either of us needs anything, we always have someone to ask,” Ms. Lund said.
Here is a list of other teachers in the high school that have children as students here at Mona Shores:

Counselor Danielle Smith-Walker: freshman Jasmyn Walker
Choir director Shawn Lawton: sophomore Jonny Lawton
Band director Rod Schaub: sophomore Gabby Schaub
