Who will you be when you grow up?

Thoughts like these have run through everyone’s minds at one point in time or another.

The thought of the future can be scary, but all juniors at Shores faced that reality April 14 at the annual career fair, held this year at Reeths-Puffer High School.

“I enjoyed it,” junior Jay McMahon said. “I thought that most of the presentations for the colleges and careers were informative and helpful.”

Although McMahon found the career fair to be helpful, not all juniors had the same opinion.

“The careers were outdated, and they didn’t have a lot of science based careers or high degree careers,” junior Nikki Kozakiewicz said.

Counselors find the career fair to be a necessity to help guide students in the right direction for their future.

“We don’t do a lot with careers and helping students to make good choices,” counselor Sue Zack said. “So this is a good opportunity for them to meet representatives first hand and make personal contacts.”

Ms. Zack is one of the many that thought the career fair was helpful and went over well.

“I think it went very well,” Ms. Zack said. “I had good comments from our students.”

Many of the college and career tables helped to show students information that they would need to know for the future.

“I found out a lot of the tuition costs and scholarships for the schools I was interested in attending,” McMahon said.

Although most are still pondering the thought of “what will I be when I grow up,” the career fair helped to seal the deal on some junior’s future goals and aspirations.
