February 24th was a record-setting day for the varsity competitive cheer team.

The competitive cheer team won the City meet for the third time in the past four seasons.

The girls landed 16 back tucks in the second round of the competition for the first time ever and compiled a score of 312.9 for the third round, which is the highest score in Shores history for the round. The team also put down a 758.4008, which is the highest overall score in Shores history.

"Every girl contributed in some way or another this season," head coach Amanda Mills said. "We wouldn’t have accomplished what we did without every one of the 28 girls."

Nine of the girls, including seniors Sammy Dalton and Tayler Garber; sophomores Jessica Taylor, Alli Mocere, and Kailey Baker; and freshmen Lauren Johnson, McKenzie Jackson, Amanda Plumley and Megan Moran competed in all three rounds of the competition.

"It was great to win it as a sophomore," Mocere said, "especially to redeem ourselves after finishing second last year."

Shores season ended at the regional competition as the team finished with a sixth-place finish, 11 points out of a chance to compete at the state finals.

"This group of girls has more heart and motivation than any team I have been a part of or coached," coach Mills said. "The girls faced every obstacle together and pushed each other all season long."

The team is young, only losing six seniors, and will return a lot of talent as they gear up for next season.

"Our success this season gives us something to reach for next year," Mocere said. "It also sets the bar very high."
