It’s Friday night in a packed high school football stadium. It’s the last game of the season with 5 seconds left. The team only needs a field goal to win, and tensions are running high.

Then, suddenly, the whole football team bursts into dance as Beyonce’s "Single Ladies" blasts over the stadium speakers. As the seconds wind down, the team steps into action and kicks the game-winning field goal.

This is exactly what happened in one of the episodes in FOX’s newest show, Glee, which has become an instant hit, and with its quirky humor, fabulous music, talented cast, and… stellar lip syncing, it is no wonder the show is so popular.

Glee follows a group of high-school students who are all different from each other, yet all have one thing in common: their involvement in Glee Club.

follows a group of high-school students who are all different from each other, yet all have one thing in common: their involvement in Glee Club.

This is like that of the band, orchestra, choir, or sport programs at Shores, as it brings a large collection of students from different groups of friends together for one common cause.

When the show began, the group included Rachel (Lea Michele), a social misfit with a powerful voice; Mercedes (Amber Riley), a stylish girl with plenty of attitude; Finn (Cory Monteith), a football jock; Kurt (Chris Colfer) a boy with a bright, flamboyant personality; Artie (Kevin McHale) a boy in a wheelchair who tends to go along with the crowd; and Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz), a girl who stays quiet but has a lot of potential.

All come together and are instructed by Glee Club teacher Will Schuster (Matthew Morrison).

All of these characters represent common stereotypes that make up typical high schools today; let’s face it, even Shores has these stereotypes. However, it is the extremeness of it all in Glee which makes it entertaining.

Along with this assemblage of individuals are two other groups of significance, one of which is the cheerleading team, called the Cheerios. They are coached by Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), who is an extreme character with a plot to destroy the Glee Club.

There is also the football team, a bunch of hot shots who consider themselves to be at the highest peak of the mountain of popularity.

Through certain events, however, some of the most popular members of the Cheerios and football jocks end up in the group considered to be the lowest of the low: Glee Club.

These kinds of ironic situations are not at all uncommon in Glee as the show always has twists and turns that prove its audience wrong just when they think they have got it all figured out.

Along with a scandalous plot that keeps people watching on edge, a talented cast, and outrageous humor, the show also features great music from all different decades and genres.

The show does a great job of showcasing the talent of the group as a whole in songs like "Keep Holding On" by Avril Lavigne and "Somebody to Love" by Queen.

However, the show doesn’t hide its favorites; Rachel and Finn are definitely the shining stars, the members that the group can’t function without, and, as a result, are given most of the solos in the shows featured on the show.

The show’s main message is to be who you are; however, the show would get this through more clear if they gave more solos to different people.

Despite this, no song could have such a profound effect if they didn’t have every single member that they do.

Glee is unlike any show; it shows the reality of high schools today, (yes, even Shores) by including sticky situations, plenty of humor, an all-star cast, and all kinds of music in its soundtrack.

Ultimately, it provides the perfect balance of humor and drama while spreading the powerful message that no matter who you are or where you come from, you do not have to be what people want you to be-just be yourself and you can be a star.
