Many students are told by counselors and teachers that if they take Advanced Placement classes in high school that their chances of getting into a higher level college increases.

“Yes of course it is beneficial to take AP classes, I always recommend students to look into taking them. A good website that will help is doorways.ucop.edu,” counselor Jose Ramirez said.

Orange Glen offers nine AP courses: AP Statistics, AP Art History, AP Psychology, AP Spanish Literature, AP Spanish Language, AP Government, AP Literature, AP Language and AP US History. These classes all offer college credit if the AP exam is passed with a three or higher.
AP classes are college-level courses that are stressful but helpful by making the transition from high school to college a smaller leap. If passing an AP course with the C or higher, your weighted GPA will be higher because a B will receive the point of an A, due to its more strenuous course work and higher work quality.  These classes reflect very positively on college applications.

 “If you never take AP classes you will never know what you are capable of doing,” junior Jennifer Orteaga said.
Another benefit of taking AP classes is getting to graduate early from college, many students that take more than 4 courses a year and score four or five’s on their exams they may graduate from college a year early. That kind of benefit can help save money.

“AP classes allow the student to challenge themselves. They are taught at a college level and makes a high school student to work harder. I think we need this so there is a variety of levels of teaching and learning here at OGHS. Besides, it is a great way to earn college credit ahead of time,” AP Language teacher Kristie Dickens said.
