The varsity wrestling team all made it to CIF for the consecutive year in a row. Junior Mario Williams was the only wrestler who made it to masters, but lost to Rancho Bernardo and Point Loma. Although Williams was the only one who made it to CIF, seniors Craig Howard, Cesar Serrano and Alex Gonzalez placed in the top 10. Even though one player made it to CIF it was the team work that helps him out.
“I think it’s my job was my job when we are in tough situations to end matches” junior Mario Williams
Sports such as girl’s basketball, boy’s soccer and cross country all increased their records over the past years. Before very few teams could barley make it to CIF or even win games. This school year many teams, coaches and individual players were awarded for their hard work and dedication. The individual skill in games plays a huge role also. That awesome goalie or 3-point shooter can help win a single game.
Teamwork is an important part a team’s improvement. Without it can make winning games complicated. Arguing during a game leads to frustration which can be hard on players. Many teams do team bonding, secret sisters and banquets, to help them communicate between the team. Communication outside of games in critical also. When teammates are feeling down its important for others on the team to know the problem.
“Teamwork to me is when we all work are hardest to win,” Williams said
While winter and fall sports improved spring sports are showing signs of improvement also. Sports like track and baseball already are doing well. Many sports are losing really great players this year, some teams will even be starting fresh. Although many students are leaving players know it will be harder, but are confident that many students will step up and take their place.
