Women play many roles in life they are mothers, wives sisters, and daughters. March is dedicated to the women who play many roles in the world. Before the 1900’s women did not receive the same freedom as men. Although they had limited freedom women still accomplished lots of things.

National Women’s History Month started on March 8, 1857 when women stage a protest on unacceptable working conditions. The holiday was first observed in 1909. Before the 1970’s women history was unheard of.

Not many women had an education which made many people believe they did not deserve history. After women received the right to vote in the 1930’s, they started breaking unbelievable barriers. Women began protesting and schools started their own program for women’s history. These actions lead to the international holiday.

“Women of the past with strength and fortitude paved the way for women today to reach and attain goals previously considered to be opened to men only. The young women at Orange Glen are the beneficiaries of their struggle and sacrifice. The opportunities that present themselves include leadership roles in business, sacrifice and education. Young women today are only limited by their imagination. I say to all Dream big,” English teacher Susan Fields said.

Women like Sally Kristen Ride, who was the first American woman in space, or Rebecca Latiner Felton, who was the first woman to serve in the U.S senate are examples of young women who strive to beat expectations.

Strong and unbelievable is the perfect way to describe these women. They accomplished an impossible and unbelievable task. They are perfect examples of women working for what they believe in.

Women accomplish something everyday. Whether they started their own business or made a good decision as a mother, they accomplished something that matters. Young girls on campus have lots to learn as they grow. National Women’s History Month can give the strength and knowledge to understand there is other women out there who rewrote history.

In today’s society women are viewed as sex symbols. Television and internet force young women to strive for the perfect body or the perfect skin. For junior Brigitte Ponce, she has eased herself away from the views of the public.

“I think it should be noticed more we are the future of America and if we don’t know about other special women how are we going to feel special,” junior Brigitte Ponce said.
