As March came to end, so did registration. Registration is the hectic preparation for students and for staff on campus.
Registration comes with hope for a fresh start and provides students with hope that they will enroll in classes that interest them.
This was a crazy enough time for students as well as the teachers and counselors.
Making sure students meet their graduation requirements is a stressful time for counselors. Also, some teachers want to have new or old classes brought back.
"It’s hard trying to do 20 kids in half an hour when your computer is so slow," said counselor Vilma Everette.
Students ponder what classes they should take and what classes are important for them to take if they are interested in a certain profession. If one students doesnt get the classes they desire can be bumming for the student. Sometimes even a hardship, as the student may want that class because it’s a necessity for their future plan.
Students aren’t the only ones who had a hard time figuring out registration. Counselors worked vigorously from the 14 through the 25 of March getting students ready for next year.
However, scheduling is long and confusing at the beginning of the year as well.
When students sign up for popular electives, the popular elective classes become full.
Those students who have signed up for certain classes, some of the other preferable classes are cut too short.
With budget cuts, the schools can’t afford to have all these classes open, especially with nobody taking them. The cuts have lead to fewer elective choices and crowded classrooms.
It’s crucial that all the students sign up for the classes that are rarely offered on this campus.
If not, most schedules are alternated and students will have to wait till next year if they offer it again.
Many students on campus choose electives that they really enjoy and classes that they need in order to graduate.
Culinary Arts, Dance Child Development, Yearbook and Fashion were in order the most popular this year.
"Students like this class because they don’t do the regular things that they do in a class and they get to experiment with their own hands doing food," said Culinary Arts teacher Cindy Gavin.
