English
Jessalyn Bernhofer previously taught 4 years at Aberdeen High School. Her favorite part about teaching English is world literature based on the timely and contemporary views. She believes that the “censorship and controversy [of the literature] will breed good discussions” in class. Bernhofer wants to contribute to the rigorous atmosphere and fun in her English classes. Bernhofer went to Kent State University and received her masters degree at Johns Hopkins University.
Math
Jennifer Bice is a first year teacher and teaches integrated geometry and algebra. Bice says that her favorite part about teaching math is that it “builds off of each other. What you learned in second grade, you still use today.” She attended Millersville University.
Guidance Secretary
Kim Debelius comes from working in the guidance office at C. Milton Wright High School for 3 years. Her favorite part of her job is to interact with the students. Debelius states, “I love the excitement and variety that the students bring. [The students] are wonderful, polite and positive.”
Inclusion helper
This is David Dencler’s first year of teaching. Says Dencler, “My job is to meet with the students, build a rapport with them, and help them succeed.” He always wanted to work in the public education field and he “loves working with people.” Dencler earned his bachelors degree at Towson University and his masters degree at Loyola.
Social Studies
John Liberto has been working at NHHS for the past 3 years as a long term substitute. Liberto teaches LCW and World History. This is his first year being a full time teacher and his favorite part of teaching is that he “loves making a difference in students’ lives.” Liberto went to Towson University and received a bachelors degree.
Natural Resources/ Science
Jacqueline Smith is a new teacher in the agricultural magnet program at NHHS. She says that she is “excited to be in the program,” and that it is a “unique opportunity for students to get involved in what matters most to them.” Smith previously worked at Joppatowne High School. The most funny/embarrassing moment of her teaching career happened when “a student accidently caught me on fire on my first day of student teaching.” Smith attended Virginia Technical University.
Natural Resources/ Science
Katie Rae Warner is a first year teacher in the Agricultural Magnet program. She likes to be a plant science teacher because it gives the students a “hands on learning experience.” She feels that the Ag Magnet program has the “potential to be one of the best programs in the state.” Warner said that the most embarrassing moment in her teaching career was when she was “using the dry erase board, and got [ink] all over [her] face.” Warner attended West Virginia University.
