Boys wrestling has had an up-and-down season. They started out with a big win and then lost to La Mirada. However, they’re still fighting and Coach Pendleton says that he expects to have "anywhere from two to five guys place in CIF."

These boys have had a rocky last four years. They’ve had four head coaches in four years. While all the coaches teach the same thing, they all teach in a different way and it’s harder to adapt to an entirely new person every year.

Many of the wrestling boys deal with a pressure outside of

the ring: the pressure to fit your weight class. Donald Quigley, junior, said his goal for the year is to "not die of starvation." This is his first year on wrestling and he was not expecting this much stress on making weight.

Star players this year are junior Efren Uriarte, senior Anthony Kaouri and junior Mario Molina. These young men work very hard to be so successful.

Anthony Kaouri feels good about being known as the star wrestler this year. He said, "All my hard work shows." He also plans to come back and help coach after he graduates. This is his most successful year out of the three that he has already completed. His goal for this year is to go to state championships. He is in the 125 weight class and thinks he needs to improve on his strength.

There are three other co-coaches along with Coach Pendleton. They are Ibi Atalla, Charlie Khong, and Kyle Cummins. All of these young men graduated from Mayfair and decided to return to help Coach Pendleton.
