After a rocky start in the preseason, Mayfair’s boys varsity soccer team has finally seen a change of luck. The Soons have been on a fairly smooth road since the beginning of Suburban League play.

With the majority of this year’s team being new to varsity, the boys were bound to have some problems winning games.

The team chemistry necessary for victory was not established until the last of the preseason games.

According to junior

midfielder Reda Hamdon, "As soon as we actually began to play together as a team, we began to win."

The boys’ league record (at press time) of 3-3 is evidence of their improvement.

The majority of the players this season are underclassmen playing opponents that are seniors, and many of the new players exhibited an initial tendency of timidity in the beginning. They quickly learned, however, to learn to discard their shyness in the game.

"Since this is my

first year on varsity, I have learned a lot," says sophomore defense Alberto Sparks III. "Even though it has been very challenging, I’ve had a lot of fun."

The team still continues to maintain its focus in practices to ensure that they can bring

seriousness to the field at game time.

"I’m really looking forward to winning league and going to CIF playoffs," says senior defense Jonathan Obando. Most of the team shares the same feeling. even thinks that boys varsity has an actual chance now that they are doing so much better in league.

With outstanding players like Seniors Daniel Walsh, Kevin Hodges Steven West and Terrence White, and junior Alex Martin, the team is playing together
