(June 8, 2012) -- Pearly white limousines and “gigantic” party buses pulled up to the La Cañada Country Club on May 4. Girls were decked out in their “dream gown” and boys looked “fresh” in their rented tuxedos. Prom had finally come.

Before prom, the race was on for the best dress. Students shopped all over Melrose and Sherman Oaks, in the search of their perfect dress. Celine Khalafian, adamant on finding the dress, put her original dress on hold and still searched for another. “I wanted to make sure I had looked everywhere and that I had seen everything before buying one,” said Khalafian.

Khalafian was not alone in being stressed out about prom. Artur Nazarian, who planned a party bus for 60 people, felt overwhelmed with stress as well. “I had to collect all the money from 60 people and also make sure the bus would come to the pre-party and prom on time,” Nazarian said.

Preparations aside, many students said that prom turned out amazing. Students noticed the theme, “Evening in Paris,” the second they walked in and saw a giant ice sculpture of the Eiffel Tower. First walking down the stairs, students greeted their friends and complimented each other’s clothes, as they smelled the buffet of steak and lasagna.

After eating and taking many pictures, seniors hit the dance floor. Natalie Sarukhanian, who enjoyed dancing with her friends to the Armenian music, said, “Watching the movies as a little kid I expected something else. It was different, but not bad different. I definitely enjoyed myself!”

Students danced to old school jams, Latin music, Arabic mixes and more. The ground shook from the tapping of the heels and the fist pumping of the boys. The second a catchy song came on, students dashed to the middle of the dance floor. “It was so hot! Everyone was squished together, but no one really cared,” Sarukhanian said.

As students scrambled around to get some last minute pictures, the time had come to leave. The night seniors had been waiting for for years had finally ended and the after parties began. Whether it was renting a house at Palm Springs for the weekend or hanging out at IHOP, students said they definitely had a blast. “The after party was better than I expected. It was a dream come true!” said Nazarian, who went to Palm Springs with about 30 of his closest friends.

“Prom was definitely a night to remember,” said Sarukhanian. Mineh Vartany who also attended the Hoover High School Prom said, “No one can compare to Clark’s prom. Our class is just so in sync with each other. It’s just different at other schools.”
