(May 27, 2010) -- People ask me all the time, “Why is Robert Downey Jr. your favorite actor?” and I don't ever really have an answer. What determines an actor's superiority? Is it just their raw talent? Is it their ability to morph into any character that is thrown at them? Maybe it's their personality during interviews. Maybe it's their life background. Or could it just simply be their looks? I think each person has their own reasons for liking a specific person in the business, but for me, it's a mixture of everything.

Picking favorites has always been a tedious task for me, so when I do actually conjure one, it is like a perfectly baked cake, each ingredient adding a bonus to the overall pastry. There is no one set reason. It's a combination of factors that make Robert Downey Jr. wonderful and in return, make him my favorite actor to have ever graced any television screen.

When I see him star in another movie, grace another magazine or be interviewed on another late night show, I get a sense of happiness that swells up inside my stomach. Sure, I have never met him and sure, I will probably never meet him, but isn't that how everyone should be? Shouldn't we feel happy for others when they finally achieve the success, love, and adoration they deserve? Or maybe it’s just me.

Either way, whenever he talks about his past life and experiences, I cringe in my seat and cover my face with my hands. I can’t even bear to hear the troubles he, or really anyone, had to face. But then, shortly after, I can wipe the sweat off my brow when I realize that the past is the past and he isn’t dealing with drugs anymore or, even more traumatizing, sitting in a jail cell.

The thing that irritates me the most is when people think of Robert as some arrogant and narcissistic beast. There’s a fine line between being a fan and acting as if you know an actor on a personal level, to where you think that you have the right to judge someone. In the end, none of it ever affects me because I don’t need the influence of others to make my own decisions. And plus, he dresses like he just stepped out of a GQ magazine, which is always a good thing.
