Friday, May 28, 2010 By Katherine Cruz [ArticleImageHyperLink] Advertising Students celebrate Cinco de Mayo (May 27, 2010) -- This year, Clark Magnet's Spanish club decided to celebrate Cinco de Mayo by going to the nearby Dunsmore Park and having some traditional cuisine--such as dulce de leche, tortilla chips and salsa--and just enjoying one another's company. "It was fun. I loved the food, especially the flan," said sophomore Bellen Avelar. "I think Spanish Club did a great job at organizing a fun Cinco de Mayo mini celebration." When the club members arrived, the students spread all over the park. While some students were on the swings, the rest of them headed straight for the food. The food was donated by club members and Julie-Ann Melville, the club’s advisor. "I liked that we went to the park and were able to celebrate Cinco de Mayo out in the open and fresh air," said sophomore Randi Robins. "After all, it is a celebration of freedom. " Before their mini field trip, students had learned in the previous meetings and their own Spanish classes about the history and tradition of Cinco de Mayo. As for comments and future requests, sophomore Chris Rodriguez said, "The food was awesome and I think I had a little too much fun on the swings. I hope we get to up to the park again! Props to Mrs. Melville and the advisers for putting something different together!"
