(April 1, 1999) -- Clark is in the process of establishing its own chapter of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF). CSF is an organization that promotes scholarship, community service and model behavior. The main benefit of this club is that the members receive recognition at graduation.

The students receive a gold tassel, a pin, a certificate and more. To be eligible for recognition, one must be a member for six semesters.

Being a part of CSF looks good on college transcripts. To join this organization, one must receive mostly A’s and B’s (not counting physical education) and must pay the club fee of three dollars each semester to continue.

Meetings will usually be held during lunch each month in room 1236. Discussions during meetings will focus on fundraisers and community service hours.

Each member needs three service hours each semester to stay in the club. There are many ways of procuring hours. For instance, tutoring at school, cleaning up the campus and any other community work.

The fundraisers that are held support the scholarships that are sometimes awarded to members.

"Scholarship can mean doing well in school, being a good scholar," said Joanne Koch, club adviser.

In addition, receiving gold tassels and braids to adorn their graduation gowns tell the audience how hard a CSF member has worked to get to where they are, according to Mrs. Koch.

If one cannot be a member for six semesters, trying for five or four also receives recognition at graduation. CSF holds a few of their meetings at different destinations, depending on the club.

Each member must be responsible, hard-working and be willing to do what is needed to be done to be eligible for the club, Mrs. Koch said.

Any sophomores who are willing to join the other 29 members in the club can see Mrs. Koch in Room 1236.
