(April 1, 1999) -- The upcoming Clark Magnet High School Spring Dance will be presented with the theme "Decades." The dance will be held by the ASB Friday, April 30 in the school’s auditorium.

The night will last from 7 to 11 p.m. with ticket prices possibly about $10-$14. The ASB is working on having food at this dance, with drinks served at reasonable prices.

"The theme ‘Decades’ is expressing a certain period of time in the 20th century by apparel," described Mike Keshishian, A.S.B. President. It is a theme in which students will have the opportunity to present their creativity and express their favorite decade.

The idea is that students should dress according to any decade from the 1920’s through the 1980’s. The 1990’s are excluded to make the theme more of an entertaining experience.

If a student decided to dress up in the style of the ‘20s, for example, a girl could wear a flapper dress with a feathered headband and a guy could dress as a ‘20s gangster.

If you are not interested in the ‘20s, there are still many other decades to choose from.

For the ‘50s guys can wear the James Dean look: greasy hair, rolled up jeans, white muscle shirts and a letterman jacket. Girls can wear a white top or a cardigan and a poodle skirt or capri pants, also known as pedal pushers.

It is not necessary to dress as a specific person in the decade chosen; but it could be amusing for some students.

"Creativity is the key to having a fun experience at the ‘Decades’ dance," noted Keshishian. The theme is meant to be fun and allow students to examine the different style possibilities.

Students may also use the Internet to explore fashion ideas for the dance. With Clark’s technology, that option is available to all students. By using the Internet, it’s simple to see images of a costume from an appropriate decade.

"If you weren’t at the first dance, you can’t miss this one," commented Keshishian.
