(April 1, 1999) -- As students and faculty members of Clark Magnet High School walked into the halls in March, a new ‘50s style clock known as the Panthers Time brightly shined to greet them. This bright fluorescent clock turned out to be the key to making Clark a happier environment.

The idea started with a brief conversation between our school secretary, Barbara Melone and the head of the Department of Food Services, Richard DeBurgh. The Department of Food Services had the same clock in their office when Mrs. Melone went to visit Mr. Deburgh.

Mrs. Melone suggested that it would be nice for Clark to have one as well. Mr. Deburgh kindly offered to look into it and a several weeks later the Panthers Time became a part of Clark Magnet High School.

"It makes the school look friendlier and homier," says Mrs. Melone.

It is now the main attraction in the halls of Clark. It lights up the whole place. Without its existence the school would look very dim now. It has already made a great impact on Clark. Students now look forward to passing the main office.

"I like it because it is very colorful," says one student.

The clock is not something that most schools have. Clark is the first school in the district to own such a unique clock. With Clark being the technology-based school, Panthers Time is a great addition to our collection of technological devices.

During the short amount of time the new guy has been, it has put a smile on many faces, lit up the whole campus and has given Clark another great memory to cherish. Panther’s Time will be a wonderful way to greet the incoming classes in the years to come.
