(May 1, 2001) -- Due to SAT9 testing and preparations for the Spring Fling dance, this year’s ASB elections have been pushed back to Thursday after orignally being planned for last Friday, according to ASB advisor Kristina Provost. Like last year’s elections, instead of speaking in front of a live audience, the candidates’ speeches will be videotaped beforehand, then broadcast school wide, according to Provost.

After speeches are broadcast Thursday, students will be given ballots to vote for the candidates. The ballots will then be scanned to be counted and the final list of names will be posted following the election.

There are eight positions to be filled for office: ASB president, ASB vice-president, secretary, ASB director of finance, ASB director of technology, ASB director of club relations, ASB director of activities and ASB director of publicity.

ASB vice president Jenny Oganezov, who is one of the people in charge of the ASB elections, said, “I wish that there were more candidates running for all of the offices so that Clark students could have more options. But I also understand that people might not want to sacrifice their seventh period for ASB.”

Provost said that she is very happy with everyone’s participation. “I am proud of the people who had the courage to run and exhibit their school spirit,” she said.

For the individual class elections, candidates must fill out an application and turn them in by 3 p.m. today. The names of the eligible candidates will  be posted Friday. On election day, May 11, each class will be assigned to separate areas for an assembly where the final candidates will address their fellow class members. The final voting will take place following the assembly.
