(May 1, 2001) -- Clark’s first senior prom will take place above the city lights in downtown Los Angeles May 19, according to senior prom committee and senior class officers.

Tomorrow a fashion show of prom apparel will  be held in the amphitheater while the underclassmen take the SAT9 test.   Sponsored by Gary’s Tux Shop and David’s Bridal, student volunteers from the senior class will exhibit popular dresses and tuxedos for the Prom 2001 season.

Tickets went on sale April 23 at $75 for each person.  At the same time, the nomination and voting for prom court took place at the top of the amphitheater.  According to class president William Bairamian, while there will be a prom queen, there will not be a prom king, due to various “complications that might occur.”

Stairway to Heaven was chosen as the theme, since the elevated location of the prom site—the 50th floor of the Bank of America building—is high above the city among the city lights.
Senior prom at a bank?  Don’t worry.  According to Bairamian, “We won’t be dancing on office desks and vaults.  It is an elegantly decorated restaurant with a beautiful view of the city and the Hollywood sign.”

In fact, the entire floor is “elegant and has a spectacular view,” according to senior class co-advisor Stephanie Sajjadieh.  Hence, she said, the committee is concentrating on the centerpieces for decorations, which will be designed and hand-made by committee members.   “We don’t want to overdo the decorations because the place is already very elegant,” said Bairamian.

There will also be a buffet with three courses: appetizer, main course and dessert, with three to four choices on the main course.  The menu also includes vegetarian alternatives.
Entertainment will be provided by an Event Group, a group specializing in prom and grad nights, according to Sajjadieh.

“We’d appreciate it if everyone comes to the prom and has a great time.  It’s going to be great.  It’s one of our last times together, so all seniors are encouraged to come,” said Bairamian.
