(November 19, 2001) -- Getting off to a good start for a year of successful class activities, ASB and the class of 2002 organized a senior barbeque that not only benefited this year’s seniors but future classes as well by beginning traditions at Clark. Last Thursday, the senior barbeque was held from 11:00-11:50 a.m., after the senior class picture was taken.

The picture began at 10:15 a.m. in the amphitheatre and took approximately 20 minutes to complete. The seniors then missed their third period class and enjoyed an extended lunch on the field behind the gym. Each student had the choice of a burger, hot dog or a quesadilla, each with chips and a drink.

This event, funded by the senior class, originated as an idea by the administration and class advisors to set aside a day for the class of 2002 with the intention of establishing senior traditions. Senior Class President John Nahas described the barbeque as a “day to just chill and do whatever, just for the seniors.”

Students listened to music, walked around and just spent time with their friends. Senior Lisa Min distributed a survey for her classmates during the barbeque. The students wrote down suggestions for a class motto, brainstormed ideas for future activities and voted for  “most likely to be...” categories.  The survey included space for the seniors to suggest a quote for their graduation invitation, January dance suggestions and covered prom topics issues of a prom name, theme and whether or not there should be a prom king.

“I think the barbeque was a real good idea. It’s a chance for the seniors to have their own individual event,” Min said.  Many seniors were looking forward to the barbeque, according to Min, and believed the class of 2002 needed their very own activity.

Senior Class Advisor Cynthia Puchniarz noted that last year’s graduating class didn’t have any other senior activity besides prom. Puchniarz said she hopes that by the time the current freshmen graduate there will be many creative senior class activities approved by the administration for the students to participate in.

“I’d like to see more innovative activities. Just think of how fun it will be for the class of 2005,” she said.
