Over 30 students in Mary Mardirosian, Carol Pettegrew and Maral Guarino’s English Language Development (ELD) classes went to the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum May 17 in Topanga Canyon for a day of Shakespeare and other activities.  Ian Flanders, the general manager, and actors who played different characters from the 17th century entertained the students.

"This experience had me learn about Shakespeare in a fun and interesting way,” said freshman Nairi Issagolian.

Students were separated into three different groups to learn tools of acting.  After each group finished their activity, they combined to watch Shakespearean plays performed by UCLA students.

Clark was the venue for yesterday night’s Family Picnic and Concert Under the Stars performance, which featured the district orchestras. The free picnic dinner began at 6 p.m. and the concert will began at 7 p.m.

“The Glendale District Symphony has 70 members, 32 of which are Clark students,” according to the orchestra director Craig Kupka. He also said, “We love the amphitheatre at Clark and love performing out of doors, so it’s a natural thing to want to perform at ‘home.’” Senior Philip Sriployrung said he joined the orchestra “because it fills a gap in my life.”
