Modern Warfare 2 shoots up record charts
(December 10, 2009) -- Modern Warfare 2 is the most talked about and played game ever since its release on Nov. 10, according to GameStop. It shot up the record charts for the most sold game, making over 310 million dollars and selling about 4.7 million copies in the first 24 hours of its release. Activision, the publisher of the game, didn’t even announce the official date of its release until May, when people were literally counting down to the days of its release, one of them being freshman Chance Vander Geugten.

“There is a reason why this game broke records,” Geugten said. “Modern Warfare 2 is way better than all the previous ones.”

Many people agree with Geugten’s view; his friend, freshman Armen Dzulfayan, said that the game was very realistic because he didn’t move “freakishly” fast like in Halo 3, and the time to reload wasn’t too fast or too slow. The details and clarity of the graphics shocked even the biggest fans of the Call of Duty series.

“I never saw any pixilation while playing the game and every little detail is so shiny,” said freshman Daniel Allard. “And the plot wasn’t confusing at all because it was a continuation of the story from the first Modern Warfare.”

The plot has a few new twists to it, which sophomore Nikolai Karavodin said are compelling and mind-blowing. The story is slightly shorter than the last game and takes about seven hours to finish, but the game has different levels and the hardest—veterans’ mode—takes about 10 hours to finish. Seven hours of play is still a long time, but Karavodin actually forgot that he was holding a controller—in other words, the controls are flawless. Also, the Spec Ops mode allows players to interact with other players, a new plus to the game.

For the many fans out there, Infinity Ward, the developer, and Activision offer the Prestige Edition of Modern Warfare 2, which includes fully functional, wearable night vision goggles, an individually numbered and engraved Captain “Soap” MacTavish’s Collector’s Stand for the goggles, a hardbound art book and a full, downloadable game of the original Call of Duty at $149.99.

The game’s crystal-clear graphics and intriguing missions are just a few things that make this game so attractive. Gamers usually say that the game’s ratings are over exaggerated because usually the game does not meet its expectations, but it was a different case for Modern Warfare 2.

“Honestly, the hype didn’t live up to the game,” Karavodin said. “The game was better than what people were giving it credit for.”

It isn’t a surprise that the game was a toe-stomping shock to many gamers. It has exceeded expectations—the sales show it all. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Even publishers of other games, such as Assassin’s Creed, moved around Modern Warfare 2’s release date, fearing the popularity of the game. This fact isn’t a shocker to gamers who have purchased the game because it’s that good. it’s that good.
