New laptops were given to 14 teachers the first week of February. In a meeting, AP teachers agreed to use the money budgeted by the state for them to buy new computers. They were first given to AP and then to ESL teachers.

Teachers who received the computers said they are satisfied with their speed and performance.

The model they received is the Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 1.7 GHz, N1000C from Compaq, costing $1700 each. Its features include a DVD player, CD burner and a hard drive with 30GB of memory.

Clark has obtained a rank of 10, the highest possible rank, on last year’s Academic Performance Index, according to results released by the California State Dept. of Education Feb. 20. The results also show Clark receiving a rank of 8 when compared to other schools with characteristics similar to those of Clark.

A total of 788 students were included in the testing, more popularly known as the State Testing and Reporting (STAR) program. The published results also show all of the high schools in the Glendale district scoring above average on the standardized statewide tests—an accomplishment not achieved since the API was developed three years ago.

On Feb. 21 Clark held its first- ever blood drive in the auditeria.  Participants had to be over 17 years and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donations went to the patients of the Glendale Memorial Hospital. Junior Armen Hovhannisyan said, “I know that there’s a shortage of blood in the community, and sick people are suffering because of it, so I wanted to do anything in my power to help.” Over 40 students participated. They were given snacks, drinks and a free t-shirt or coupon to Baskin-Robbins.
