Cali-Nev-Ha, Cali-Nev-Ha, Abooga-booga-booga, HA-HA-HA! On Saturday, Nov. 8, 21 members of Clark’s Key Club stomped and cheered their way into the Fall Spirit Rally held at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

Dressed in the specially-made navy blue “Sharkey,” the mascot, shirt and waving a shaking specially made aluminum can “shakers,” the Key Club members, along with many other students from Eagle Rock, Glendale and Holy Family High Schools, battled with other schools to be named “most spirited.”

The rally lasted from 11:30 to 2:00 p.m. and for the rest of the day, the Key Club members were given free time to eat, ride the roller-coasters and have fun.

The newly formed Hike Club participated in their first hike Nov. 15 on a trail behind JPL.  Juniors Janell Faraj, Ani Burr, Patricia Ocampo, Raffi Petrosian, Mariana Sinanyan and senior Angela Asatrian, along with teachers Carol Pettegrew and Diane Jaynes, took part in the hike that lasted about an hour and a half.  On the hike, the club members sang, talked and bonded.  Pettegrew even brought her mountain bike and biked alongside the hikers. Jaynes summed the hike up in one word: “Awesome.” Burr added, “It gave us a sense of unity with nature.”  And Sinanyan said that she left a piece of her hair on a sage plant so that “a part of her would always be there.”

Engineering Club will be holding their annual engineering contests with the underwater ROV (Remote Operation Vehicle), electric auto and electric breadboard, once completion of each project is finalized. Using electromagnets, the Underwater ROV contest is based on which vehicle is able to collect the most metal washers on the bottom of the pool and put as many as possible in a submerged bucket. Held for the freshmen, the electric autos contest has two parts within it—one measuring speed and the other measuring the hill climbing distance. Also held for the freshmen are the electric breadboard contest, where students use diodes, breadboards and jumper wires to spell out a given word as fast as possible. With more than 100 students signed up, Engineering Club is now full. Engineering Club is divided into four clubs with advisors Loussik Kassakian, Ray Good, Alan Solinger, and Gerald Gruss.
