(June 11, 2004) -- It is 5:40 p.m. and, as usual, many of the seniors are fashionably late to the Senior BBQ and Awards. Around 6 p.m., students and adults pour into the top of the amphitheater overlooking the mountain vista and line up to feast on hot dogs, hamburgers, beans, watermelon and punch. The BBQ portion of the evening that lasted until about 7 p.m. was more of a cozy, relaxed atmosphere in which the attendees conversed, dined and even joined in a friendly watermelon eating contest in which Michael Lyons and Tadeh Ohanian were tied at 23 slices.

As 7 p.m. neared, more seniors and parents took their seats in anticipation of the awards event. Addressing a crowd filling up the top of the amphitheater, ASB President Artia Moghbel began the awards with a salute to the flag. Highlights of the night included a touching anecdote from English teacher Stephanie Sajjadieh to Davit Sargsyan, Poetry Club President Conor Bowman reciting an on-the-spot two-line poem, and a frequently repeated appearance from the big awardees Chad Mosley and Conor Bowman.

As the sun set and the evening came to a close, the attendees said their goodbyes for the evening as well as to one of the last events of the school year.
