As the busses unloaded at Camp Maxx Strauss in La Crescenta, over 80 Toll Middle School students unloaded to begin the 48 hours of fun awaiting them. Project SMART is a program which seeks to raise awareness about the harms of tobacco. The program also helps kids develop leadership and team building skills. As students set out to claim their cabins and explore the surroundings, the KATS students set out to prepare their presentation materials. After teambuilding and dinner, the students were exposed to the KATS presentation. Clark students served as junior counselors for the Toll kids, spending their time helping manage the teams and building a sense of unity among the kids they worked with. KATS Club President Steve Garcia said the stay at camp was “a great and positive experience for both the students.” The entire program was hailed as a success by both the Toll administration and Judy Sanzo, advisor of KATS and TUPE coordinator.
The Clark winners that were chosen for the 2005-2006 PTSA Reflections contest were sent to Glendale’s PTSA Council to be judged against the winners from the other high schools in the Glendale district. The Hoover-Clark Symphony Orchestra presented their second concert of the year, Freeze Bowl VII, in the Clark amphitheatre on Wednesday. Despite the chilly weather, roughly 100 people turned up, which is much larger compared to that of previous years. The concert began at 6:30 p.m. and ended around 8 p.m. The event was successful despite the fact that the crash symbols, keyboard and timpani were left at Hoover. The orchestra received a loud applause as they rose and performed the can-can for their closing act.
