(June 19, 2006) -- “Welcome, everyone, to Clark’s first annual senior project film festival!” announced librarian Susan Newcomer as she kicked off the event June 5. The event was planned to put a fun end to senior projects, the last of which were presented June 3.

The film festival, which took place in the auditeria, had a turnout of about 60 students, most of whom were sophomores and juniors. Newcomer, who had been planning the event for only the past few weeks, says that the idea just “kind of came to [her]” after seeing a few of the senior project videos.

“I knew there were some good ones and wanted other students to get a,” she said. “I mostly wanted to do it for the underclassmen, just so they could get a feel for the senior project.”

Students submitted films they made for their senior project to Newcomer, who put them through a screening process to decide which would be featured at the festival. “There was a wide diversity in the films; we had animation, documen taries and suspense, but they were all creative and interesting,” she said.

The event began with Anderson Au’s film — Identity Theft Pandemicabout— public security. “I think [the event] went well for our first time. Unlike previous years, we didn’t have the amateur feel previous Clark films have had,” Au said. “Now that we have our new cinematography teacher, it’ll get better every time.”

However, Au says that he would have preferred a film festival at the end of the year displaying a variety of films made by Clark students, as opposed to only films made for senior projects. According to Newcomer, there will definitely be a film festival again next year about it.
