(January 26, 2007) -- (January 26, 2007) -- “It was almost like luck…but it couldn’t have all been luck,” junior Mindy Robins said.  Having won the girls’ Division championship against the Patriots Jan. 18, Robins was just surprised at how it all played out.

“It was that one touchdown that we made and then three minutes later it was all over,” Robins said.

Robins’ team, the Raiders, defeated the Patriots 1-0 in the final game, making it an even match. Stress level was high throughout the game, with all the girls screaming simultaneously for the ball. Tension between the teams was created not only by the championship trophy but also partly by the class rivalry; the Raiders were made up mostly of juniors and the Patriots of seniors.

Sharing the field with the girls that day were the Chargers and the Rams of the second boys’ Division. Chargers led the scoreboard the entire game, winning 5-2 at the end. “It was a good game, it was really our day that day,” sophomore and team captain Casey Villanueva said.

The following day, Jan. 19, was the final game of football intramurals between the Division I Vikings and Colts. This game drew in a large crowd, the audience left little room on the bleachers, which left the rest to resort to the sidelines. The game was hectic and the guys were brutal, knocking into each other to grab a loose ball. It was a tight game, with the Colts beating the Vikings by only one point, 4-3.

“It is fun seeing students do something that is not academic,” referee and teacher Charles Blattner said, “The intramurals are competitive yet good-natured, so I enjoy participating.” This was the seventh football intramural tournament since the school opened in 1998. One hundred and eighty-two students signed up for intramurals, making up the 26 teams from all the divisions.
