(April 10, 2008) -- On March 19, the Science Club hosted a group of elementary school students in Lusik Khassakian’s classroom during enrichment. The students from Lincoln Elementary School had come after school to learn more about the scientific method and to witness science at work.

The point of the students coming to Clark was so that they can apply what they learned into the science fair projects they had to complete soon afterwards. The group consisted of fourth, fifth, and sixth graders.

After the Power-Point presentation the group received a treat when senior Dalar Nazari and sophomore Arielle Chongco went forward to show them an experiment. The excitement began when Nazari asked the students what they thought would happen to the mixture she was creating. The students threw out answers like "an explosion" and "bubbles," hoping they were correct.

As Nazari poured in the second liquid, and told the students to step back, just incase, all of their eyes watched the beaker to see what would happen. When Nazari showed the class the new solution, they all noticed that a solid had formed, where before there was only liquid; only one student had successfully guessed the right outcome.

Fifth grader Christan Alvo had fun throughout the lecture and had loved the experiment, "I thought there would be an explosion or a big flash of light," he said. He also said that it was interesting for him to hear about the scientific method because he liked science and would love to do something with science one day, "I think that science is cool, and being a scientist would be fun," he said.

The lecture had begun with senior Angie Wang and freshman Saro Meguerdijian showing the students the Power-Point presentation they had made. Wang and Meguerdijian taught the children about the scientific method and kept the kids focused by asking questions and having them participate.

After the science club finished with their presentation they began speaking to the kids about their ideas for their own science fair projects. They tried to incorporate everything they had taught the students into their science fair ideas. The science club believed that their lecture was really helpful to the students and their final science fair project.
