Coach Morris explains a play to his freshman quarterback Michael Miller last week during practice. - Megan Moran

Who do we, as students, go to when we are seeking inspiration? I believe I have found the perfect candidate for the job, Coach Morris. He may not realize his impact of inspiration on others, but Coach Morris has truly inspired both staff members and students alike. “I get inspired, motivated or influenced very easily. People, places, situations, bring opportunities of inspiration,”said Coach Morris. While paying Coach Morris a visit for his interview, we talked about a wide variety of subjects including family, books, favorite hobbies, football, and above all inspiration.

Even after spending a considerable amount of time with Coach Morris, the story I keep returning to is one he told me last year, and re-told me during our interview. When Coach Morris was still in high school he had a history teacher who was a great inspiration. Coach Morris was the type of student who was the smart-shy type, but his teacher who had higher expectations in him. It was this same teacher who inspired him to become the person he is today. His history teacher made him lose some of his shyness and get up in front of the class and recite songs and other important facts pertaining to the subject.

Not only is Coach Morris a coach for football, but he is also a spiritual coach who leads his team with kindness. He has inspired many to do the right thing not only on the field but outside of school as well. He’s the funniest guy I’ve ever met! I love his little lectures he gives us,” said junior Brandy Wilson. Coach Morris has also inspired me to join a group on campus that is not advertised as much as it should be, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, or more commonly referred to as FCA.

Not in sports? Not to worry, FCA is not only for those involved in athletics, but also to all other students on campus. These meetings are held every other Wednesday at 7:30 am in the competition gym, and a small breakfast is provided.

For this person we call ‘coach’, Morris hopes “I walk, the walk, and talk the talk. Being a parent, teacher, and coach, I know I need to do the right things and influence in a positive way.”

Coach Morris also says, “Everyday in my profession, or calling is an opportunity to motivate someone to do better or to make a change or grow in a positive way.”
