Wanting to coach basketball has led Coach and Special Education teacher David Farber to Bandera HS.  Oh, and the fact that his wife Natalie will be the new principal at Boerne High School may have had something to do with it as well.

Farber will be a special education inclusion teacher, the Varsity Girls Basketball coach and an assistant cross-country coach this fall.  Getting up early is “ritualistic” to Farber, and it has helped him get to know some of his players.  Sophomore cross-country veteran Molly Ballard said, “Coach Farber is so nice and I feel like he’s going to make our varsity team the best it’s ever been.”

Farber’s family includes his wife Natalie, a daughter Ashton who is a junior at Texas A& M and a son Colton who will be freshman at Boerne HS this fall, two border collies and a cat.  He graduated from Schreiner College with two bachelors degrees, one in Exercise Science and one in Psychology.

Most recently, Farber taught at a 5A high school in Copperas Cove, TX, but welcomed the opportunity to come to Bandera.  “It’s an opportunity to get to know the kids and the community better,” Farber said.

Farber will also be the Varsity Girls Basketball Coach, the assistant Boys and Girls Cross Country coach as well as Coach Steve Golemon’s co-coordinator for the BHS Girls Athletic Department.  “Coach Farber brings experience and enthusiasm to all three positions,” Coach Golemon said.”He has an understanding of how to build working relationships with both parents and student-athletes,” Golemon added. Plus, according to sophomore Megan Lohrke he has another very important asset, “He has a VERY good sense of humor.”

Farber has taught for 19 years and has taught Health, Physical Education, Business and Special Education and will be primarily an Inclusion teacher at BHS.

Noting that he has little free time during the school year, Farber did say that he enjoys audio books such as, “any John Grisham book,” playing golf and swimming.
