The art show had its opening reception on Thursday, May 12th. The show will be displaying the artwork of Rocklin High School students. A selection of the best work of the primarily advanced classes was displayed.

The teachers voted for their favorite artwork, with some teachers picking several pieces, as they could not decide which they prefer. The staff favorites were: Caecilia Kim, in first, Dayton Magness, in second, and Christer Dabu, in third.

Several pieces of art received multiple votes, but three works stood out from the crowd: Scratchboard Dancer, Japanese Maple, and Glasses and Cell Phone, by Caecilia Kim, Dayton Magness, and Christer Dabu respectively.

Ms Hayes, the Rocklin High art teacher, handed out awards to some of her best art students. Tamara Dendall won Art 1 Student of the Year, Peter Sushch won Art 2’s Most Inspirational, Ye Won Ki won Most Inspirational Advanced Student, and Erick Tash and Caroline Kilby both won Exemplary Portfolio of Work.

When interviewed, Ms Hayes had some words to say about each of her students.

Tamara Dendall is a “serious and dedicated artist and overall student.”

Peter Sushch is “quiet and unassuming, with amazing talent. Art 2 students are often gathered near his desk to see what he is working on. The doodles on his portfolio could go into an art show.”

Ye Won Ki is “quiet and shy, always her own worst critic. Her work is though-provoking and she has excellent technique."

Erick Tash’s “work is completely unique and original, with a whimsical quality that everyone enjoys.

Caroline Kilby is an “AP Studio Art student. A delight to have as a student because of her dedication to art and fun-loving demeanor.” She is a “dream AP student.”

Make sure you find time to see the hard work of the RHS art students.
