Blame it on the Alcohol?
Students dancing at Senior Ball. - Natasha Pineiro

Rumors run wild, especially after such a controversial Senior Ball.

This night is expected to be an unforgettable memory to last forever. Proms are so idealized. When something out of the ordinary happens, everyone seems to have a differing story about it.

Forty students were kicked out of the dance for drinking, someone got drunk after her first sip, a party bus was turned away before they even entered the dance. None of these stories are real.

However, 16 students were asked to leave the dance for underage drinking. Three of these were not Rocklin High School students. After being allowed to enter the dance, they were soon after caught, and found to be under the influence.

Because of their poor choices, the dance was in jeopardy for the rest of the students. Innocent seniors were being questioned, but after the 16 students were taken care of, the dance was thought to run smoothly by administration.

There are various stories regarding the consequences of the 13 Rocklin students. Their punishment is the same as if they had been drunk on campus. They are suspended, and have lost participation in further activities.

Everyone wants to know if they will be walking at graduation. As of now, the answer is undecided. All that can be determined is that the students are expected to graduate from Rocklin, but participation in the ceremony is still in question.

In the most recent case of underage drinking (’09), the student was not allowed to walk with the class at graduation because the five-day suspension overlapped graduation. This could be the case for the current students if they continue with poor decisions.

With the most students being kicked out of Senior Ball this year, Saturday night was memorable in many ways. Hopefully, in the future, students will make good decisions, because they will have to face the consequences and the possibility of revoked class privileges.

I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. Walking at graduation is a PRIVILEGE not a right. These seniors made a really stupid mistake, and they should be punished. Five days of stay at home suspension is not enough punishment. Missing out on Senior Brunch, and Senior Picnic is not enough punishment either. They need to have their "right" to walk at graduation provoked. Let them graduate, do not let them walk.

I'm really surprised that the seniors would do this. I mean, they are suppose to be mature and have their years of Rocklin High experience in their minds. And within that experience, is the knowledge that drinkig that much can ruin your life instantly. I'm not exaggerating because I have learned and seen this kind of thing before. The Seniors have their future going for them, they are ready for it. But the way I see it, I'm starting to question that. I'm just a freshmen and I honestly thought that the people less likely to do this kind of thing, would be the seniors.
