“I thought I did pretty well, and I looked the best in my pink tie,” says Freshmen Justin Castro about his speech for the Lions Club Competition.

According to the Lions Club website, they [the Lions Club] “conduct vision and health screenings, build parks, support eye hospitals, award scholarships, assist youth, provide help in time of disaster and much more.” For this competition, the club sponsored a speech organization that consisted of 10 participants who gave speeches on Global Warming: fact or fiction.

Castro and fellow Freshmen Garth Keffer became involved in Lions Club through their speech and debate class. “We had to get involved in an outside speech activity, and Lions Club was a good choice,” commented Keffer.

To prepare, “endless hours of writing” and research had to be completed. Senior Nicole Cayanne-who took first place-Castro and Keffer were the top three to move on and speak at the next meeting.

Cayanne ended up taking first place and received the honor of moving on to the next level of the competition. She was unavailable for comment.
