With a constant parade of Chinese, Italian, Mexican, and American restaurants, finding a truly unique style of food has become a ever-present issue. But there is hope yet.

Inspired by The Hawaiian Islands, L&L Hawaiian Barbeque is a blend of Asian and American food with the unique Island flare that accompanies all local Hawaiian cuisine. The abundance of the diverse cultures found on the islands is evident in odd but tasty menu items.

With menu items under $10, this restaurant is more than affordable. And don’t expect tiny portions, for you will be in for a pleasant awakening; many dishes are very capable of being two meals. The most prominent of theses selections is the Plate Lunch; the average plate containing two scopes of rice, one scope of macaroni salad, and a main entrée. A large aspect of food in Hawaii is white rice, or Jasmine rice, the staple starch (from the Asian influences); you’ll be hard-pressed to find a home or a restaurant without a rice cooker.

Before going, prepare yourself for the expansion of your food horizon, for the mouth-watering combinations will have you permanently attached to your fork. With your choice of beef, chicken, seafood, pork, sandwiches, and burgers, no one will go hungry when within the wall of this place.

The classic meal here is the Loco Moco; a plate of white rice, topped with a hamburger patty, fried egg and gravy. You will be crazy not to try it. And don’t forget to try the Chicken Katsu, because you haven’t tried good local food until you have had some. And there are plenty of drinks of both recognizable and exotic origin.

Walking in the door, you are greeted by both familiar and unfamiliar scents, and a warm and welcoming “Aloha”, the typical hello in Hawaii. Surf boards, Aloha print shirts, and breathtaking pictures, garnish the walls; the perfect distraction as you wait for your freshly prepared food (mind you it is a short wait).

Now Located in 9 different states, L&L BBQ is starting a chain of new tastes. In Rocklin, take a right onto Fairway Drive off of Stanford Ranch Rd, and then an immediate right into the parking lot, just park, and enjoy your meal. For more locations visit their website hawaiianbarbeque.com.
