Red Cross Halloween Safety Tips for Kids and Adults

With all these flying witches, creepy goblins, pretty princesses, strong super-hero’s, and crazy cartoon characters walking door to door in neighborhoods across America tricking people to give them candy. The American Red Cross is willing to offer parents and children some safety tips to help prepare for a safe, spooky, and enjoyable trick-or-treat night.

*Walk, slither, crawl, or sneak on the sidewalks, not in the street. You wouldn't want to get ran over!

*Look both ways before crossing the street to check for cars, trucks, and low-flying brooms, and strange UFO's!

*Cross the street only at corners.

*Don't hide or cross the street between parked cars. You wouldn't want to get lost.

*Wear light-colored or reflective-type clothing so you are more visible. So other ghoulish creatures and cars can see you! (And remember to put reflective tape on bikes, skateboards, and brooms, and scary candy bags, too!)

*Plan your candy gathering map and share it with your family. If possible, have an adult go with you. (Just for even more safety.)

*Carry a flashlight to light your way. So you can spot scary things that may be in the dark, and so you don't run into anything!

*Keep away from open fires and candles. (You don't want your costume to catch on fire.)

*Visit homes that have the porch light on. (If the light is off then either they are not home or out of candy!!)

*Accept your treats at the door and never go into a stranger's house. (You don't want to be a rude trick-or-treater.)

*Use face paint rather than masks or things that will cover your eyes. (Wouldn't want to run into something strange or get hit would you?)

*Be cautious of animals and strangers. (You don’t want to get hurt.)

*Have a grown-up inspect your treats before eating them. (Some witch might have put an evil potion in it, so you wouldn't want to eat something like that!)

There are some rules and safety tips provided by the American Red Cross to keep you and your little goblins safe on Halloween! So have fun Trick-or-Treating and hope you get a lot of yummy candy!!
