Model United Nations (Model UN) and International Club held a spaghetti dinner to raise money for Model UN’s field trip to Cleveland in spring.
The field trip gives Model UN members a chance to really look at world issues from the United Nation’s perspective and how they respond to different problems. The event not only gave Model UN money to go on the trip, but the participants also gained some cultural awareness with various demonstrations.
Senior Model UN Secretary Jessie Henry explained what Model UN will do during their trip to Cleveland.
"We’ll break up in two different committees, and we’ll discuss the issues relevant to that committee and try to represent our country with its best interest," Henry said.
Model UN adviser Amy Fagnilli explains the different demonstrations that students performed during the event.
"There was a chorus that sang a song in German, there was a dumpling demonstration by Julie An . . . and a tae-kwon do demonstration," Fagnilli said.
Model UN President Alexandra Constantinou was excited about the demonstrations.
"I was really looking forward to my Greek dance, but I had to teach some of the Model UN members the dance because my teammates couldn’t make it because of the snow," Constantinou said.
Fagnilli was happy about the turnout.
"Because of weather only 60 people attended, but we did sell 100 tickets," Fagnilli said.
The event will be held again next year.
