The PV girls soccer team played against Chico High on March 30. The PV girls have been practicing hard and doing well this year, working to ensure a victory against their long-time rival, Chico High.

The PV girls seemed confident playing against Chico High for the second time this season. The last time PV and Chico High played each other was at the St. Mary’s Tournament. At the start of the game, Chico won the coin toss and had the ball first. The ball went back and forth for about 10 minutes. Then, the ball was passed to PV senior Crystal Torres (#10) who scored the first and only goal of the game. Around 18 minutes into the first half, Chico had the ball and a Chico player was close to making it in the goal, but PV goalie, freshman Brenna Meier (#13), was able to block the shot. Around 25 minutes into the first half, Chico High’s goalie received a yellow card. PV got fouled quite a few times, but this did not affect the team’s performance. PV and Chico played well offensively and defensively in the first half of the game. Crystal Torres did very well in the game and she was really surprised she made the goal because it was her first goal of the season.

 “It felt amazing [to score the first goal]! Our next game will be way more intense. It’s nerve-wrecking because this time it will be at PV and there will be more people I know,” said Torres.

The second half started with PV in possession of the ball. PV had control of the ball and kept it most of the time and played offensively. At one point, a Chico player had the ball and ran toward PV’s goal. Karina Torres (#12) stole the ball and ran it down the field alone. Unfortunately, she did not make a goal, but her play was a highlight of the game.

“It felt pretty good running the ball across the field, especially because the audience was cheering me on and it was exciting,” said Karina Torres.

At the end of the game, PV beat Chico High 1-0. These two rivals will play against each other again on May 1 at PV.
