Imagine sitting nervously in the dentist’s chair, your waiting anxiously for the laughing gas to take effect, but it doesn’t work and the dentist starts drilling anyway. That same feeling is present while watching Owen Wilson’s new comedy, Drillbit Taylor. This appalling new comedy, is about three high school dorks- a corpulent, gregarious clown; a philistine; and an emaciated geek- who hire a bodyguard (Owen Wilson) to protect them from high school bullies. As the audience knows and the three dorks later discover, Owen Wilson who plays as Drillbit, is in actuality a homeless scammer who misleads the kids into thinking he is a bodyguard. While attempting to protect the kids, Drillbit is secretly stealing from one of the geek’s homes. As the movie progresses however, Drillbit builds camaraderie with the nerds and feels remorse in scamming them. When Drillbits true identity is revealed, the nerds abandon Drillbit and send him back to the slums in which he came from. As the movie ends the nerds find themselves face to face with the bully that has made their lives a living hell. After trying to resolve their differences in a violent street fight, Drillbit comes to the rescue, knocking out the bully and saving the nerds from humiliation. As usual the movie concludes with good prevailing evil. This movie lacked any real humor and was unnecessarily longer than needed. With only a few, even remotely funny scenes this movie did not live up to its expectations. It did however have a good premise and a great cast. Drillbit Taylor may appeal to some Tottenville High School students, however spending ten bucks on this film is literally a drill in your wallet.
