Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

Do you remember that old game show ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire?’. Contestants would get up on stage to answer a series of multiple choice questions in hopes to win money. It was an interesting show to watch. I don’t know anyone that didn’t try to play along by shouting out the answers while watching, but thinking back on it now, I wonder why would you want to be a millionaire?

I’m a firm believer in the saying “money doesn’t buy happiness.”  In this day and age, it seems like everything in the world is centered around money. It feels like everything is telling us we can’t have a happy life unless we spend an abundance of money. What ever happened to playing board games or riding a bicycle to the park?

I’ve seen people come up with so many excuses for why the put money as such a high priority, but is it really worth all the stress? About 75% of the average American’s stress is directly related to money. This stress has also taken a toll on people’s home lives. Our country’s obsession with money has almost completely destroyed our own sense of family. So many parents are trying to take extra shifts or are working late at the office with the hopes of providing more for their children. Providing what is the question? The idea that money is the most important thing?

I understand with this economy it’s difficult not to be worried about money and how to take care of your family, but I hope everyone keeps in mind that a child’s happiness isn’t created by how many toys they have, but how much they know they are loved. Kids don’t need the newest toy or the latest video game; they just need to know that their parents are there for them.

I’m not trying to say money is evil or that we should all get rid of all our possessions; I’m just asking you to think about all the wonderful things you have in your life that don’t require money. Remember, the best things in life really are free.
